What is a memory clinic?
Memory clinics are especial assessment services by specialist. It is the only service of its kind in your area. This clinic takes referrals primarily from General Practitioners and one can approach directly and is aimed at meeting the needs of those people who are concerned with memory problem.
In this clinic patients are comprehensively assess , diagnose and than doctor recommend treatment as per need.
The assessment process
- Every patient will be registered first and patient will get the registration card / File.
- Initially patient will be seen by a specialized person for assessment.
- After the assessment the patient is referred to a specialist doctor.
- The doctor may advice you to have some investigations (blood tests, X-rays etc) at the time of first visit.
Doctor may advice you to see a clinical psychologist. This referral is logically being the reason for detailed evaluation of your memory testing. Doctor may recommend a close relative/ friend along with you.
What are the benefits in attending?
The Memory Clinic is an elective service that means you choose to attend and no one can compel you to do so. We cannot undertake any assessment that you do not wish us to do. Those who choose to attend do so because they are concerned about a change in the way that their memory works and worried that this may be serious.
By attending the Memory Clinic you will be given an answer to the questions. This may sort your memory changes. If a problem is identified then we can advise you and your family doctor how best to address this problem. In many cases the Memory Clinic Doctor will offer you the treatment that may be required to help with your memory changes.
Your results
Everything that you tell us is regarded as being confidential information that will only be discussed within the memory clinic, with your GP and with other doctors who may be asked to see you. We will not disclose any information about you to any third party, including your family, without your express consent.
What are the risks in attending?
We do not deal with urgent cases and the assessment process can appear at times to be lengthy. This is either because of the increasing number of people we see or waiting lists of patients. You may feel frustrated with the wait for everything to be completed before we can then discuss results with you.

How often will I go to the clinic?
After your first appointment you will come back one month later to see the doctor. He/she will check that your medication is suiting you and decide if the dosage needs changing. Thereafter you will be seen as per need.
